Spiritual Care

The mission of the Spiritual Care Department at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center is to provide spiritual and emotional care to our patients, their families, and our staff, regardless of their faith tradition, or for those with no religious affiliation.

Caring for the whole person includes providing spiritual and emotional support during times of joy or suffering, calm or crisis, at the beginning of life or the end of life.

We are prepared to assist in your spiritual journey through prayer, spiritual counseling, religious sacrements, or simply by listening to your story.

What is spiritual care?

Spiritual Care is providing biblically based spiritual guidance (one-to-one conversations) to individuals for the purpose of healing, restoring, and living lives honoring God. Spiritual Care is a context where individuals can address life’s challenging issues with another individual in an environment where they will be heard.

Our spiritual care commitment

Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center is committed to providing services and care for the health and wholeness of each patient and family that we treat. Our Spiritual Care Chaplains join with other disciplines to offer a compassionate presence for those in need. They are pleased to assist you in your particular circumstances, and will embrace the support and care of your faith community if you have that connection.

Are the Chaplains licensed therapists?

The spiritual caregivers are NOT licensed therapists. We are defining “Spiritual Care” as distinctly different from “counseling” as provided by a licensed professional counselor or therapist. It is reasonable to anticipate that by informing the care receiver of that distinction, and by functionally giving Biblical based spiritual guidance, we are not bound by legal statutes that pertain specifically to licensed professional counselors.

Arrange a visit by a Chaplain

You may ask any Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center staff member to assist you in arranging an appointment with a Chaplain, ask your nurse to put a note in the Chaplain’s Log or you may dial the hospital operator. If you prefer, you may call the Spiritual Care office directly at (863) 419-4153.

How can I see a Chaplain right away?

Our Administrative Chaplain is in the hospital Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - noon so a simple call to the office at extension 4153 works well. But if you need a Chaplain right way call the hospital Operator. They have an on call list of over 40 Chaplains and Assistant Chaplain's that service our patients and their families 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Chapel locations

We are pleased to host two Chapels for prayer and meditation. The first floor Chapel is just off the lobby next to the fountain. The Second Floor Chapel is located off the side of the ICU Waiting room. Our chapels are open to all religious beliefs and are there to help you with meditation and prayer.
