A heart attack occurs when blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart is cut off or severely reduced. It is caused when arteries to the heart build up with fat, cholesterol or plaque.
Heart attack symptoms in women include:
- Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in your chest
- Pain or discomfort in one of both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach
- Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort
