Stork's Landing

A special place that welcomes babies and celebrates new families, Stork’s Landing is Heart of Florida’s labor and delivery area. We have six warmly decorated labor and delivery room suites, an operating room for C-sections and a post-anesthesia care area. At Heart of Florida we have both obstetricians and certified nurse midwives on staff.

Our Level I Nursery has all the capabilities to handle normal births and those with minor complications. We also have a neonatologist on staff who cares for the babies in our nursery.  The nursing staff is highly trained to stabilize infants who may need to be transferred to a higher-level-care facility.

After delivery, the patient and infant (if stable) will be transferred to our Mother/Baby Unit. Once here, the infant will "room in" with the mother to facilitate bonding. The support person is usually able to spend the night and assist with infant care. We provide a bed to accommodate the patient's support person and all the supplies needed for routine infant care.

Celebrating Your New Addition

A new baby is cause to celebrate! Heart of Florida recognizes this with a gourmet celebration dinner for mother and her support person prior to discharge. We also provide a keepsake Heart of Florida “onesie” and blanket for your baby and a diaper bag in which to carry all of the essentials.

Education

Gestational diabetes is a complication in pregnancy that some women experience. We have an educator on staff to educate pregnant women on how to manage their gestational diabetes. Childbirth classes are also offered for expecting couples, and a lactation consultant is available for mothers who wish to breastfeed. Call 863-419-BABY (2229) for more information on any of these educational services.

Pediatric Services

Heart of Florida pediatrics care is provided by a warm and compassionate staff in our Kid’s Kingdom. Rooms are private and comfortably accommodate the pediatric patient age birth - 21 years, and their parents. We know that a hospital admission is stressful and frightening for a child and their family. We encourage family to ask questions and participate in the patient's care.

Your child’s pediatrician admitted him/her to the hospital to receive specialized care. That care will be overseen by one of our pediatric hospitalists, a physician who works closely with your family and your child’s pediatrician to determine the best course of treatment. Hospitalists provide care 24-hours-a-day and are able to closely monitor your child’s progress.

Bringing Children to the Hospital

While Heart of Florida provides caring medical services, nothing can replace the family’s support and the warmth of familiar things. For that reason, we encourage a parent to stay overnight with children, and encourage you to bring things like a comfy robe, slippers, stuffed animal or fun activities to make your child feel more comfortable and “at home” while in our care.
