Auxilians of Interest

       This page is devoted to introducing you to Auxilians around the hospital that you may not know. It will feature profiles of new volunteers, as well as some who have been been around for many years. If you know of any interesting or talented people whose story we can tell, please contact the website managers. 
 

   Betty Rhoades

       Betty is a long-time volunteer with over 13,000 hours of service to the hospital. She started in 1986 at the original Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and has resided in Haines City for over 30 years. Betty was a homemaker all her life and raised two children. She has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She currently is service chairperson in the Collating department, is active in her church and loves to work in her yard. If you see her around, stop and say, "Hi".
 


     Grace Simmons
 
    
Grace is one of our newer volunteers, having started on August 11th of this year. She began her service at HOF soon after moving to Davenport in the spring. Grace was born in Redding, California, and has lived in Oregon, Virginia and Tennessee over the years. She has been an administrative assistant, office manager and caregiver throughout her career. She has two children and two grandchildren living in northern Virginia. Her current service area is Escort desk, where she does multiple shifts when asked to do so. Among her hobbies are sewing, gardening and scrapbooking. Let's all welcome Grace to our Auxiliary.




   Joyce Streeter
             
    
Joyce is another long-time member of the Auxiliary, with nearly 3,000 hours of service. She started in 1999. Born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, she has resided in Haines City for 45 years. Joyce retired as assistant principal at Bethune Academy. She has three children, seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is service chairperson in Same Day Surgery. Her main pastimes are volunteering, helping out at church, traveling and  reading. If you see her around, stop and say, "Hi".




   Richard Cribbs

         Richard "Dick" Cribbs has lived in Florida for over 50 years. Born in Greensburgh, Pennsylvania, he has run a drapery business for the past thirty years, with headquarters in Miami. Dick and his wife live in Davenport. They have three children and three grandchildren. He currently is driving one of the courtesy carts on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. If you see him, stop and say, "Hi," and welcome him to the Auxiliary.




    Bill and Ony Manss

          Bill and Iona "Ony" Manss are one of many married couples serving in the Auxiliary. They have been married nearly 60 years. Originally from Albany, New York, they ran a resort in the beautiful Lake George area for 30 years and moved to Florida in November of 2001. They began volunteering in mid-2004. They have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Bill divides his time between the Physical Therapy department and Collation while Ony works the desk in Same Day Surgery. Ony's favorite pastime is singing with the 12-member choir in their park and they both enjoy the swimming pool. If you see them around, stop and say, "Hi". They have many stories to tell about their resort days.




     Arletta Throop

         Arletta Throop is a recent addition to our ranks, having gone through orientation in September of this year. She is originally from Vestaburg, Michigan, a small town just north of Lansing. She and her husband built and repaired farm silos in the area for over 25 years. They have been married for 52 years and have five children and six grandchildren. Arletta's hobbies are sewing and bowling. She works the desk in Outpatient Admissions. If you see her, stop and say, "Hi, welcome to the Auxiliary".
